Genpio

AI livestream for live commerce in China

China labels AI-generated content by law since September 2025, and the duty to declare falls on whoever publishes the stream. Read that before the rest.

The largest live commerce market in the world, and one with a national law written specifically about labelling AI-generated content. Read the compliance section first; it is the part that decides whether the rest of this page is relevant to you.

Read this part first

In China, running an AI host is governed by a national rule aimed directly at synthetic content, rather than only by a platform's own terms.

The Measures for Labeling AI-Generated Synthetic Content took effect on 1 September 2025, issued jointly by the Cyberspace Administration of China, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Public Security and the National Radio and Television Administration. Two obligations matter to a seller running an AI livestream:

  • Explicit labels must be added to content "generated or synthesized using AI technologies, including texts, images, audios, videos and virtual scenes". A synthetic host with a synthetic voice is squarely inside that description.
  • Implicit labels must be carried in the file metadata.

And the obligation is not only the vendor's. Under the Measures, users who publish generated synthetic content must "proactively declare it and use the labeling functions provided by the platform". Buying an AI host does not move that duty onto the vendor; it sits with whoever publishes the stream.

Reported penalties for non-compliance include regulatory investigation, fines, suspension of business and revocation of permits.

Source for the wording above: Loeb & Loeb's summary of the Measures, read on 29 August 2026. This page is not legal advice and we are not your counsel. If you are planning an AI livestream into China, the correct next step is a Chinese lawyer and your platform's own compliance desk, not a vendor's marketing page, including this one.

The numbers, with their sources

We keep the market figures in one place rather than restating them here. The English data post carries the Chinese figures with their attribution to a joint study group from the Development Research Center of the State Administration for Market Regulation and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences reported through Xinhua, the National Bureau of Statistics, and ARK Invest on livestream's share of ecommerce:

→ Livestream commerce data in 2026, and which numbers survive a second look

That post also makes the argument this page depends on: China is not a preview of anyone else's market. Its livestream share was set by platform design and shopping habit, and the numbers do not transfer.

What the platforms allow

Genpio streams to Taobao, JD Live, Douyin, Kuaishou and Xiaohongshu, all of which are on the destination list on the homepage.

We are not going to summarise five platforms' AI-host rules from outside the market and present the result as reliable. Each of these platforms publishes its own creator and merchant rules in Chinese, they change, and a rule read second-hand in translation is exactly the kind of claim this site tries not to make. Compare that with the pages where we do have a documented answer, Shopee's approval route and TikTok Shop's US-scoped prohibition, and treat the absence here as deliberate rather than as an omission.

What is documented, and applies across all of them, is the national labelling requirement above.

Where an AI host earns its hours here

Honestly: less obviously than anywhere else on this list, and the reasons are worth stating.

  • The domestic vendor field is mature and strong. Chinese digital-human livestream vendors have been shipping into this market for years, are built around these platforms, and handle the labelling requirements natively. An overseas vendor is not the obvious choice here and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
  • The genuine case is cross-border in the other direction. A brand selling out of China into Southeast Asia, Latin America or Europe, in the destination market's language, is the shape where Genpio's 85+ output languages and 33 destinations do something a domestic tool does not.
  • The overnight and off-peak hours, as everywhere, on a catalogue already selling during the day.

What we would tell a seller here to do first

  1. Get compliance settled before anything else. The labelling Measures are national law with named penalties, and the publishing duty is yours. Chinese counsel first, vendor second.
  2. Ask every vendor, including us, how their output carries both labels (the visible one and the metadata one) and treat an unclear answer as a no.
  3. Look hard at domestic vendors if your selling is entirely inside China. They are built for this market and this rule set.
  4. Talk to us about the outbound case, where a catalogue in China needs to sell into markets whose language and platforms you do not currently staff for.
